What do you have on repeat? In this colloquium, a group of poets and scholars of poetry will offer a series of short, open-ended, and partial readings of a variety of texts—poems, essays, pop songs, videos—that they have recently had stuck in their heads. These readings, combined, will then make up a kind of 'playlist,' where one text will take on added meaning in juxtaposition with the others. The group as a whole and the audience will then have a chance to contribute to (and/or criticize) these ongoing readings, and/or step back to comment on the nature of our encounters with these texts in general. How are we reading, and why? We hope to emphasize the validity and explorability of the reader’s/listener’s engagements—the ways that we, as listeners and readers, make texts open up off the page, into the soundtracks of our lives.
