POET BIOS:
The first poem of Angele Ellis to be read in public was “A Manager’s Farewell,” composed for her father when she was ten years old. Since that time, Angele has practiced many forms of writing and editing, but poetry remains her first love. She is co-author of Dealing With Differences (Corwin Press), a diversity guidebook that has its roots in a 15-year involvement with Pittsburgh’s peace and justice community. (Angele is a seven-time civil disobedient.) She is author of Arab on Radar (Six Gallery Press), whose poems earned her an Individual Artist Fellowship from the Pennsylvania Council on the Arts, and Spared (A Main Street Rag Editors’ Choice Chapbook). Her poetry, fiction, articles, and reviews have appeared in over forty publications and several anthologies, including Women Write Resistance: Poets Resist Gender Violence (Hyacinth Girl Press, 2013).

Mike Schneider began writing poetry in the early 1970s, when he opposed the Vietnam war and published an “underground newspaper” on an air force base in Ohio. He’s been a newspaper boy, night watchman (in a mushroom factory), washing-machine repairman, lawyer and science writer at Carnegie Mellon. He’s written award-winning articles in Pittsburgh Magazine, and his poetry book reviews appear in The Pittsburgh Post-Gazette and City Paper. He received a 2003-04 Creative Artists Stipend in Arts Commentary from the Pennsylvania Council on the Arts. His poems have appeared in many journals, including Notre Dame Review, Shenandoah, Hunger Mountain and Poetry. His chapbook Rooster was a runner-up in the 2004 Main Street Rag chapbook competition. He received the 2012 Editors Award in Poetry from The Florida Review and was a finalist for the 2013 Mississippi Review Prize.
