Description and Reader Names: The Twenty-Seventh National African American Read-In
“Celebrating Our Roots”

Saturday, February 6, 2016 United Black Book Clubs of Pittsburgh (UBBCP) is sponsoring The Twenty-Seventh National African American Read-In. The event will be hosted by Terrance Hayes and his wife, Yona Harvey, both international award winning poets and educators.

The afternoon’s theme of the selected works to be read is “Celebrating Our Roots.” The readings will include children’s books of all genre written by African, African-American, African-Caribbean and all writers of the Diaspora.

The event is a part of the international African-American Read-In and will be an afternoon-long story reading to the children of our community at the Homewood Branch of the Carnegie Library, on Hamilton Avenue, Pittsburgh, PA 15208.

This News Release is a call out to the greater Pittsburgh community to participate. This special day will be a celebration inclusive of every neighborhood from the east, west, south and the north sides. We are seeking adults, young adults and teenagers of the community to volunteer their time to sit down and read one book to the children. Each reading will take no longer than ten (10) minutes.

Take an active role in the enrichment of the lives of children in the Pittsburgh community by volunteering as a reader on this special day. If you would like to volunteer, please contact UBBCP at ubbcp@gmail.com to sign up. If you have a favorite children’s book you would like to read, please include the title.

We also ask that you share this event with family and friends. Please encourage all to bring their children to enjoy an afternoon filled with reading, refreshments and fun.
