The Writer’s Block is an ongoing video series of interviews with visiting writers at City of Asylum/Pittsburgh. In these Q&A’s, conducted on Sampsonia Way, writers sit down with us to discuss literature, their craft, and career. View all previous interviews here.

On September 7th City of Asylum/Pittsburgh held its 9th annual Jazz Poetry Concert, featuring six different poets from around the world. Sridala Swami, from India, was one of the performers. She is currently a resident at the University of Iowa’s International Writing Program and is the author of the poetry collection A Reluctant Survivor (2007) and four children’s books.
