Description and Reader Names: Jeffrey Levine, publisher and editor-in-chief of Tupelo Press, talks about the current state of the publishing industry in America, focusing on what emerging writers need to know.

Levine will discuss the relation of commercial publishers to independent literary presses and university presses, and will consider the effects of the Internet on both publication and distribution in respect to books and journals. What are the pros and cons of MFA programs and writing workshops? The talk will move into a specific and practical discussion of how, when and where to submit your work (both poetry and prose). Levine will address the question of why to submit your work, offering ideas about the Zen of submission. How can you be your own best publicist at every stage of your writing process? How can you learn to read your own and others’ work with the eye of a publisher and editor? The talk will end with a question and answer period and open discussion.

Note: THE LECTURE IS FREE BUT REQUIRES ADVANCE REGISTRATION.
