Description and Reader Names: The Fifth Annual Pittsburgh Zine Fair (PZF) returns to the Union Project (801 N Negley Ave, Pittsburgh, PA 15206) on Sunday, October 4 from 2-8pm. This event is always free to all-age attendees and promises an afternoon of art, literature, hands-on activities and a birthday party atmosphere featuring over 46 vendors including individual artists, distros, and small presses. The Union Project is fully accessible to attendees with physical disabilities.

Since its debut at Artist Image Resource in 2011, the PZF has attracted a diverse group of artists, writers and activists from across the region whose content may vary but the format remains the same- the zine. An icon of DIY ethos and radical info sharing, the zine decentralizes media and vaults individual expression while remaining inexpensive.

The birthday season begins on October 3rd at Bunker Projects (5106 Penn Avenue, Pittsburgh PA, 15224) with The Zine Fair Mixer. The night before the main event, the Mixer allows vendors to can share their work and connect with each other and the community. Attendees are invited to enjoy live readings and performances by our vendors while getting a preview of what will be available for purchase the following day. The PZF will celebrate with balloons, birthday hats and maybe even cake to mark five years of zine culture in Pittsburgh.

At the fair, the Mr. Roboto Project and Carnegie Library Zine collections, refreshments from Black Forge Coffee House, and hands-on activities are featured in the atrium while vendors pack the Great Hall of the Union Project with music provided by DJs from WRCT. Outside, Randita’s Grill and PGH Taco Truck will sell a variety of vegetarian and inexpensive food. Through this programming, the PZF is more than a one-day event but a culture that celebrates the Pittsburgh community of voices.
