Writing Workshop on Texture & Voice in Poetry
Graham St Writers Exchange
10/11/2015
11:00 AM - 1:00 PM
Workshop
Poetry

$10.00

Description and Reader Names:
In this workshop, we’ll discuss texture and voice, the richness of tangible details that are sensory and tactile and add layers to poems. How do words sound/feel?

Excerpt from “Diner” by Kenneth Hart:

I love the soggy square of white bread hidden beneath an open-faced hot turkey sandwich
and the overstuffed plastic throw-away cup of cranberry sauce they give you with the order,
which spreads out on the plate in blobby red chunks, soon to be part of me.

We’ll look for language with freshness as we read poems from several different poets and discuss how they are strong in texture, variety of voice, layering and diction. We’ll write from prompts to help generate new poems or prose.

Facilitator: Valerie Bacharach, poet.RSVP to email below.
