Description and Reader Names: Join us for a lively discussion of the fictitious book March by Geraldine Brooks, a story depicting the life Mr. March—the absent father in Louisa May Alcott’s Little Women. This book explores Mr. March’s life as a cleric, Union chaplain during the Civil War, and teacher to freed slaves on a cotton plantation. Beginning as a first-person narrative, the story switches to Marmee’s—Mr. March’s wife—perspective while her husband is away. On the evening of Friday, April 1, 6:00 p.m. – 8:00 p.m., Dr. Veronica Watson will lead a group discussion of the book. To conclude this Live and Learn weekend, guests will be invited to visit the LeMoyne House on Saturday, April 2. Saturday’s activities will begin at the History Center at 9:00 a.m., and the group will take a bus to the LeMoyne House. Breakfast will be provided before the bus departs. The bus will leave the LeMoyne House at noon with an anticipated arrival back at the History Center at 1:00 p.m. or shortly after. The bus only has 25 seats so be sure to register early. In addition, the first 35 individuals who register will receive a free copy of the featured book.
