Description and Reader Names: Theresa Brown, a Pittsburgh-based author and contributor to the New York Times "Well" blog, visits CLP - Main with CRITICAL CARE: A New Nurse Faces Death, Life, and Everything in Between. Leaving her job as an English professor at Tufts University, Brown turned to nursing, a second career that proved to be as rewarding as it is challenging. In CRITICAL CARE, she writes powerfully and honestly about her experiences during her first year as an oncology nurse. Focusing on the vital role played by nurses as health care providers, Brown's lyric writing captures the tensions of the hospital floor and the gritty reality of death and dying. Elizabeth Cohen, CNN Senior Medical Correspondent, calls the book "[a] must-read for anyone who wants to understand health care."
